Yorglass Reduces Carbon Emissions by 23% in Three Years with Its Eco-Friendly Production Approach

Yorglass, the global and trusted supplier of glass solutions, is setting new sustainability benchmarks in the glass industry as it prepares to celebrate its 50th anniversary. With a strong focus on renewable energy and recycling, the company has successfully reduced its carbon emissions by 23% over the past three years, cutting total emissions from 582,121 tons to 451,077 tons. At the same time, Yorglass has increased its renewable energy usage in electricity consumption from 12% to 28% and recycled 550 tons of paper and cardboard waste, saving 9,364 trees from being cut down.
The glass industry is known as one of the most energy-intensive sectors, with significant environmental impacts. However, through sustainable production models and environmentally friendly practices, Yorglass continues to minimize these effects while setting an example for the industry. Chairman of the Board, Semavi Yorgancılar, shared insights on the company’s pioneering steps:
“By recycling 550 tons of paper and cardboard waste, we prevented the cutting of more than 9,000 trees”
“By increasing the share of renewable energy in our electricity consumption, we have significantly reduced our carbon emissions,” said Yorgancılar. “Within the scope of the International Renewable Energy Certificate (I-REC), we raised the share of renewable energy from 12% to 28%. In addition, with our TRY 240 million solar energy investment, we installed 28,885 solar panels on our factory rooftops, generating 17.1 million kWh of electricity annually. This production is equivalent to the annual electricity needs of 3,425 households and will prevent 7,507 tons of CO₂ emissions per year.
At the same time, recycling remains a cornerstone of our sustainability strategy. Over the past three years, we recycled 550 tons of paper and cardboard waste, preventing the cutting of 9,364 trees. We are determined to further increase recycling rates with eco-friendly waste management practices.”
“We invest in eco-friendly technologies at every step”
Highlighting that reducing carbon emissions is a non-negotiable part of a sustainable future, Yorgancılar added:
“Through energy efficiency projects and logistics optimizations, we achieved remarkable results—bringing down our carbon emissions by 23% to 451,077 tons. This success was made possible by optimizing energy consumption, expanding renewable energy use, and improving natural gas consumption. As a company that integrates sustainability into its business model, we consistently invest in eco-friendly technologies and strengthen our leadership in this field.
Wider adoption of sustainable production in the glass industry is not only vital for the sector’s transformation but also for addressing global environmental challenges. At Yorglass, we are proud to be part of this transformation and remain committed to building a greener future.”
“We compete with our own achievements in sustainability”
Emphasizing the recognition Yorglass has received for its sustainability efforts, Yorgancılar continued:
“In 2024, we achieved an ‘A’ rating in the CRIF ESG assessment, reflecting an excellent level of sustainability performance. We won the Governance Good Practice Award at the 2023 KalDer Sustainable Future Awards and the Achievement Award in 2024. We also advanced to the Bronze category in the global EcoVadis Sustainability Index.
