Yorglass is pioneering sustainable production, shaping the future today

Yorglass Leads Green Transformation to Tackle Turkey’s Projected 2050 Carbon Emissions of 700 Million Tons
Pioneering sustainable production, shaping the future today
As global resource consumption continues to exceed the planet’s regenerative capacity by 75%, projections indicate that Turkey’s carbon dioxide emissions will reach 700 million tons by 2050. Highlighting that sustainability is no longer optional but an imperative, Gülfem Yorgancılar Perçin, Vice Chairwoman of Yorglass, underscores the importance of green transformation on the occasion of World Environment Day, June 5:
“Building a sustainable future requires more than environmental sensitivity—it demands an integrated approach that includes economic and social responsibility. At this point, green transformation in production is not a choice but a necessity, ensuring efficient resource use, renewable energy investments, and effective waste management.”
Operating with the vision of minimizing environmental impact, Yorglass—one of the world’s most trusted glass suppliers—integrates eco-conscious practices across all its operations, playing a leading role in driving green transformation.
Turkey’s Total Greenhouse Gas Emissions Projected to Approach 900 Million Tons by 2050
Perçin stressed the urgency of decisive action:
“According to Global Footprint Network data, humanity exhausted its ecological budget for 2024 within just seven months. Globally, consumption exceeded the Earth’s annual regenerative capacity by 75%. For Turkey, carbon dioxide emissions are expected to climb to 700 million tons by 2050, with total greenhouse gas emissions nearing 890 million tons. This stark reality underlines that sustainability is no longer a matter of choice but a necessity.”
She added:
“At Yorglass, we are committed to minimizing environmental impacts and using resources more efficiently. Over the past three years, we recycled 550 tons of paper and cardboard waste, preventing the cutting of 9,364 trees. By continuously increasing our recycling rates, we both reduce environmental impact and optimize costs. Through improved inventory and management systems, we ensure production efficiency without generating unnecessary stock—leading to reduced waste and more efficient use of resources. At the same time, we are fostering a sustainability culture within the company by raising employee awareness.”
“We Increased Our Renewable Energy Consumption to 28%”
Perçin emphasized that solar power has been one of the company’s most significant investments in its sustainability journey:
“Through the International Renewable Energy Certificate (I-REC), we increased the share of electricity sourced from renewable energy from 12% to 28%. Our efforts in this area have also strengthened our standing in global sustainability assessments. In the Carbon Disclosure Project (CDP), we raised our Climate Change score from B to A- and our Water Security score from D to B. These results reflect the tangible progress we are making in managing environmental impacts and reinforcing our transparency as a company.”
As one of the first signatories of the UN Global Compact in the industry, Yorglass continues to address sustainability across four dimensions: people, prosperity, community, and environment. The company has committed to reducing its carbon emissions by 42% in Scope 1 and Scope 2, and by 25% in Scope 3 by 2032, with the ultimate goal of achieving net-zero emissions by 2050.
“Yorglass is embedding sustainability at the heart of its business strategy,” concluded Perçin. “With every step we take, we aim to leave future generations a more livable planet.”
